Die indische Stadt Agra liegt im Bundesstaat Uttar Pradesh, am Ufer des Yamuna-Flusses. Jährlich wird Agra zum Anziehungspunkt für Touristen aus aller Welt, denn hier befindet sich das berühmte Taj Mahal. Das Mausoleum, das Sie am besten bei Sonnenaufgang besuchen, gilt als eines der schönsten Bauwerke weltweit. Sehenswert ist zudem das Agra Fort („Rotes Fort“) - eine imposante Festungs- und Palastanlage aus rotem Sandstein, die wie das Taj Mahal von Großmogul Shah Jahan errichtet wurde. Als ehemalige Hauptstadt des Mogulreichs von 1556 – 1658 ist Agra heute eine Industriestadt mit ca. 1,7 Millionen Einwohnern. Sie gehört mit den Städten Delhi und Jaipur zum vielbesuchten „Goldenen Dreieck“ Indiens. Die Monate Oktober bis Februar bieten sich aufgrund des Klimas als beste Besuchszeit an.
